Think of the Access Grid as one big collaborative application that spans multiple organizations and institutions around the globe. The forms of collaboration that occur through the Grid span everything from meetings and lectures to synchronized theatrical and dance performances.
The Grid is a research tool for technical and scientific exploration. It's also a research tool for itself, the idea being that actual use of the system will show where improvements can be made and where enhancements may be possible.
The Internet2 consortium is working to develop and deploy the Internet of tomorrow.
Each site (or "node") in the Grid runs similar hardware and software as required by AG guidelines. This guarantees a consistent user experience across the board.
