802.1X and Wireless Network Security

This full-day workshop will cover different aspects of security in wireless networks. Topics that will be covered in detail include 802.1X, dynamic WEP, WPA, and 802.11I. Attendees will have the opportunity to configure a RADIUS server to support 802.1X, and wireless equipment to support dynamic WEP, and WPA. A laptop with a wireless card, and serial port is required to participate in this workshop.

Presenters :

Chris Hessing

Chris Hessing works full time for the University of Utah Marriott Library, where he has been heavily involved in the deployment of wireless with 802.1X on campus. He is also the lead developer on the Open1x, Xsupplicant project, which provides an 802.1X supplicant for Linux. He was involved in the 802.1X interoperability test at Networld+Interop's iLabs in 2004. He also assisted in setting up 802.1X for the wireless network at IETF 60 in San Diego.

Terry Simons

Terry Simons is a developer and member of Open1x, an Open Source 802.1X project focusing mainly on Xsupplicant, and 802.1X client for Linux. He is the co-author of the University of Utah wireless white paper and author of the Network+Interop "Decentralized Scalability with 802.1X" whitepaper. Terry's university duties include general network maintenance, 802.1X client and authenticator testing and support, and RADIUS mesh administration.

Matthew Gast

Matthew Gast currently works for an advanced wireless network systems company in the Bay Area. Prior to that, he spent several years as an engineer for a series of network security companies. He is the author of 802.11 Wireless Networks: The Definitive Guide, Network Printing, and T1: A Survival Guide. Time and Location

The workshop will be held Saturday, February 12th from about 9:00am - 5:00pm at the University of Utah, Marriot Library, Gould Auditorium. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
