Utah Central Plateaus

Central Plateaus cover most of south-central Utah, mostly at elevations between 7000 ft and 11000 ft. So far I have explored areas between Fish Lake and Capitol Reef NP. These areas are quite off the beaten path and I hope they'll stay that way. The trails are very rough and technical, with long climbs - something that only serious bikers will enjoy. I have still to go to Brian Head, which caters more to the average clientele. Tantalus Flats

Tantalus Flats

One of few shuttle rides I have done. I took advantage of my parent's visit and let them drive me to the Boulder Mountain, west from Capitol Reef NP. I started at the first USFS campground, coming from Torrey, andbiked to the national park itself, where I was picked up. Start of the trail was on UT12 at about 9000 ft., end at about 4000 ft. at the park visitors center. Length, with several side trips in the park, around 70 km. It took me a little less than 4 hours of non-strenuous pace. Most of the riding was on jeep roads in relatively good shape, nothing technical. Last about 15 kms were on the pavement.

Velvet Ridge

A ride that starts in Torrey, relatively popular, it's also in Greg Bromka's book. I returned back on the highway which was somewhat hairy experience with passing pickups at 70 mph. Here is topo map and fotos

Aquarius Trail loop

A short loop on the north-western flank of Boulder Mountain. The singletrack is pretty rocky and technical, nothing for beginners. Here is topo map and fotos

North Boulder Mountain

Another hiking/horse track that some lunatic mountain bikers visit occasionally. It was not super technical, but rain made it worse. Still, a fun experience for those who get tired of Wasatch Crest. This was also one of the few shuttles I have done, a loop of this would be even bigger adventure. Here is topo map and fotos

Fish Lake loop

A classic from Greg Bromka's book, called Mytoge Mountain there. I believe that he has it an out and back, though. Anyway, loop is pretty good if one pays attention to rocks hidden in the grass. Here is topo map and fotos

Fish Lake Hightop loop

Combination of several trails north of Fish Lake. Also not for the faint hearted due to alpine style singletrack and high elevation. Here is topo map and fotos

Southern Fish Lake Hightop to Pelican Canyon

Another shorter shuttle ride, though still with pretty significant climbing, and also some important route finding (read don't try this if you don't know what you're doing). Here is topo map and fotos
