Unplanned Downtime of CHPC CHPC Services on April 13th

DNS

Sometime early on Wednesday April 13th, 2016, the CHPC domain name servers (DNS) became dysfunctional due to an OS automatic update. The update shut down the service instead of restarting it. This caused a cascading problem. Once the cause was identified and remedied, the servers were rebooted and all is well again. Services resumed about 9:30 a.m.

File Server Mounting on desktops

There have been a number of CHPC users who have been experiencing problems when trying to mount the CHPC file systems on their desktops, namely getting a permissions error when trying to do so.  CHPC staff has determined the issue was the result of an OS patch applied last night and has taken the necessary steps to resolve the problem. All users who have run into this issue should try again and if you are still seeing problems let us know by opening up a ticket at issues@chpc.utah.edu. Services resumed about 4:30 p.m.
