ATTENTION Owners of Virtual Machines in the General Environment

Date Posted: May 23rd, 2019

For those that have a Virtual Machine (VM) in the general (non-protected environment) VM farm:

CHPC recently refreshed the hardware of the general environment VM farm and we are preparing to relocate VMs from the old to the new VM farm. Details of the new hardware, sizing of VMs, and pricing structure for the different block sizes and for additional storage are given at https://www.chpc.utah.edu/resources/virtualmachines.php#gvf

The important changes:

  1. VMs are no longer free; pricing is based on the cost of the hardware.
  2. VMs sizing has been changed to a simplified block structure, with each block size listed having the specified cores, memory and disk space.  Note that additional storage can be added.
  3. We are formalizing a User Agreement for all VM owners outlining the support provided and acceptable usage of the VM.

We are starting the process of reaching out to the owners of all of the existing VM to see if they want to have their VM(s) migrated to the new VM farm, to collect the cost of the VM, and to put the User Agreement in place.

When the migration is complete the old VM farm will be deprovisioned.
