Upcoming retirement of Brett Milash
Brett Milash is retiring from a career in bioinformatics and scientific computing at the end of June 2025. Brett has been a member of the CHPC staff since 2017, most recently leading the User Services team. Prior to joining CHPC, Brett was the founding member—and later co-director—of the Bioinformatics Core Facility at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, starting there in 2003. Brett's most satisfying accomplishment at the university has been teaching Python programming to well over 700 CHPC users.
During his career, Brett has worked at biotechnology, healthcare, and software start-ups, as well as several universities, earning a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in computer science along the way. Through his focus on scientific software, Brett has worked in a variety of fields, including astrophysics, natural language processing, genetics, and drug discovery.
In retirement, Brett looks forward to maximizing his time either knee-deep in powder, knee-deep in a trout stream, or seeing more of the world from the seat of a bicycle.
